Uncommon desert tarantula from New Mexico and Texas. Known for their large chelicerae. Long lived terrestrial species that was famously known as the Carlsbad green tarantula by many older collectors that would find them in the Carlsbad area of New Mexico where the original American Tarantula Society conferences were held in the 90’s and early 2000’s. This is one of the first tarantulas that I saw in the wild back then so it will always be a special spider too me. This spider was described in 1995 as Aphonopelma gabeli by Andrew Smith.
