The original Aphonopelma that was described in 1897 by English arachnologist Frederick Octavius Pickard-Cambridge. The classic “stripe knee” tarantula from Central America, mostly known from Costa Rica. These terrestrial spiders reach 5 - 6 inches as adults and are simple to keep. Very common in the hobby these days, but their striking appearance keeps them a favorite from beginners to the most advanced collectors.
