Avicularia merianae 3/4”
Avicularia merianae 3/4”
size 3/4”
These uncommon Avicularia from Peru were known as Avicularia sp. Tarapoto before they were officially described in 2017. Named after the famous German naturalist and illustrator Maria Sibylla Merian who’s best known for her painting depicting a tarantula eating a bird around the years of 1701-1705. This was the first documentation of this and believed where the name “bird eater” came from. These spiders grow to about 5 inches and should be kept like the other Avicularia species in an arboreal set up.
