Brachypelma smithi (ex. annitha)
Brachypelma smithi (ex. annitha)
size 1”
This spider was formerly known as Brachypelma annitha, however in 2017 it was determined that this spider was synonymous with Brachypelma smithi. This caused some confusion in the hobby as one of the most classic spiders in the hobby, the “Mexican red knee tarantula” was also know as Brachypelma smithi for decades. That same paper declared the other spider as Brachypelma hamori. The 2 spiders are nearly identical but the true Brachypelma smithi is known to grow a bit larger then hamori. This docile terrestrial spider from Mexico can be difficult to find in the hobby at times.
