Hardcore Arachnids

This spider superficially looks like what is also sold as Diplura sp.Rurrenabaque in the hobby. However, Rurrenabaque is a town in Bolivia, while Diplura sanguinea is described from Colombia and Brazil. So it’s best to keep them separate. Diplura sanguinea is commonly referred to as a curtain web spider, due to the heavy webbing nature of this arachnid. Growing to almost 3 inches in length, these easy to keep spiders do best in an enclosure with a lot of damp dirt and a peice of cork bark to hide under. They will do the rest and arrange things to their liking. These spider are a lot of fun to keep, and like many of the non-tarantula mygalomorphs, are some of my favorites to raise up. This species was described in 1896 by legendary English Arachnologist Frederick Octavius Pickard-Cambridge.
