Urupelma peruvianum 3/4”
size 3/4”
A terrestrial species from the highland areas of Huadquiña and Tincochaca in Cusco Peru. This species reaches about 4 inches as adults and can be found living under rocks in its natural environment.
This spider has a long complicated taxonomic history. Originally described Hemirrhagus peruvianus in 1916 by Ralph Vary Chamberlin. Then in 2003 Fernando Pérez-Miles & Arturo Locht transferred this spider to the Homoeomma genus. Fast forward to 2023 where this spider had a short stay in the in the new genus Isiboroa created by Ray Gabriel, Danniella Sherwood & Fernando Pérez-Miles. However that same year the new genus Urupelma was created by Radan Kaderka, Tim Lüddecke, Milan Řezáč, Veronika Řezáčová and Martin Hüsser. This is where this spider currently resides. I don’t think we are done seeing names changes for this species. And to confuse things more, I’m not even certain if the spider we know in the hobby is the same spider that these taxonomist are referring too. It’s possible that this is just a unknown or undescribed species.
