This spider was described all the way back in 1841 by Carl Ludwig Koch as Mygale brunnipes until 2008 when the genus Kochiana was established for it. Adults of this terrestrial Brazilian spider reach about 3 inches. This spider breeds very well in captivity and is well established in USA collections.
