In 2003 Brazilian arachnologist Rogério Bertani revised some of the Lasiodora genus. The spider that we’ve known in the hobby for years as Lasiodora difficilis became a junior synomoun of Lasiodora benedeni. So the name L. difficilis becomes irrelevant as L. benedeni was the longer standing establishment species. However we never know if taxonomist are working with the same spiders that the hobby was calling L. difficilis or not. So it’s hard to say if this spider automatically becomes the real Lasiodora benedeni or not. Regardless this is the same spider that we’ve known for years as Lasiodora difficilis. A large terrestrial “bird eater” with an awesome silvery sheen compared to the other common Lasiodora. Reaching a possible 10 inches as adults, this genus is next in line for some of the biggest spiders on the planet right after Theraphosa.
