This is hands down one of my favorite spiders to keep. These funnel web spiders from Japan islands are rarely available and usually sell out fast when I have them. One of the largest funnel web species obtaining sizes of 6 inch leg span as adults.  Sleek shiny black spider with blood red fangs and a attractive attitude to match. These heavy webbing mygalomorphs were described in 1998 and are incredibly impressive spiders to keep. I cant say enough good things about keeping these spiders. These were captive bred here in the U.S. as well ! 

This spider has been historically sold as Macrothele gigas in the hobby for years. However all the hobby material was collected in Taiwan, that actually makes these Macrothele hungae. The real Macrothele gigas is only known from a small population on Ryukyu island of Japan. A recent 2025 revision of Macrothele had these moved to the new genus Gigathele. Same aweome spider, new fancy name.
