Omothymus schioedtei
Omothymus schioedtei
size 1”
The original “earth tiger” tarantula. These very underrated Asian arboreal spiders are a classic hobby species. These fast tree huggers grow to an impressive 8 inches as adults. These spiders were described in 1891 by Swedish arachnologist Tamerlan Thorell. Over the years they have had a few taxonomic changes, but were placed back in the Omothymus genus by Andrew Smith & Michael Jacobi in 2015. Like all Asian arboreal tarantulas, this species undergoes some serious sexual dimorphism with the males turning into mossy, green, leggy things upon maturity. Great spider for a very affordable price !
