This incredible species is one of the original Pamphobeteus species that came to the hobby in the late 90’s. These are from Ecuador and have the classic “Christmas tree” pattern in their abdomen that fades at around 2 - 3 inches. Incredibly fast growing eating machines, Pamphobeteus make great display spiders as they tend to stay out in the open,  hoping that prey will walk by. These spiders can easily reach sizes over 7 inches, with the females browning out, while the mature males turn a brilliant bright purple color. This species shouldn’t be confused with the real Pamphobeteus nigricolor from Colombia that is sometimes available in the hobby. The Colombian version does not have the Christmas tree pattern as slings.
