Pamphobeteus sp. "Platyomma" 1”
size 1”
This is one of the original Pamphobeteus that came to the hobby back in the 90’s. However nearly 3 decades later we still have no proper identification on it. The real Pamphobeteus platyomma is a spider that was moved to the genus Vitalius but found to be nomina dubia due to the type specimen being a juvie male and likely locality misinformation. So basically the name “platyomma“ is completely meaningless for this Ecuadorean Pamphobeteus species.
This spider is from northwest Ecuador and sport the “Christmas tree” pattern on the abdomen that fades as they grow. A large terrestrial species that can push 8 inches easily as adults. Like many Pamphobeteus the mature males of this species are a brilliant purple color that is an absolutely stunning change from their typical brown color. Pamphobeteus grow fast, get big and eat every time. Really fun spiders to keep.
