Poecilotheria metallica 1”
Poecilotheria metallica 1”
size 1”
Probably one of the most iconic and recognizable species to have hit the hobby in the last 20 - 30 years. P. metallica caused such a buzz in the hobby when they first hit the scene in the early 2000’s that it changed the market for new species forever with prices unheard of until then. This spider was first described in Reginald Innes Pocock in 1899 and not seen again for 101 years until it was rediscovered by Drs. B. A. Daniel, Sanjay Molur, Rick C. West and Andrew Smith. This striking blue and yellow arboreal spider reaches 6 plus inches as adults and will win the hearts over of people who don’t even like spiders. These spiders have been breeding well in captivity, however recent CITIES changes have made them problematic to import these days. A must have spider for any collection. I still remember the first time I saw one in real life. I could not believe I was looking at a blue Poecilotheria !
