Thrixopelma ockerti
Thrixopelma ockerti
size 1/2”
These are unusual tarantulas from Peru. I don’t believe these belong in the genus Thrixopelma as they look and behave nothing like your typical Thrixopelma. This spider has some of the most unique movements and is sometimes considered arboreal. However its arboreal tendency is likely an adaption to the seasonal flooding in its native habitat. Growing to 5” -6” as adults, the spiderlings of this spider is rather colors and goes through quite a bit of a color change as it grows. (again nothing like other Thrixopelma). Described in 1994 by Günter Schmidt.
