Amazonius germani
Amazonius germani
size 1.5”
This spider has a interesting history of name changes through the years. It was originally described in 1994 as Tapinauchenius gigas by Günter E. Schmidt. In 2018 Martin Hüsser established the genus Pseudoclamoris where this spider was temporarily moved. However in 2020 Yeimy Cifuentes and Rogério Bertani established the genus Amazonius where this spider was once again transferred and stands to this day. Cifuentes and Bertani also felt that previous material described by Schmidt in 1994 was a misidentified T. plumipes, so they created this name combination of Amazonius germani. I feel this isn’t the last name change for this spider, and while people say common names are confusing, this spider has always been referred to as the “orange tree spider”. This is quite the beautiful arboreal spider reaching 6 inches in length with a bright cream color orange all over its body. The slings start off with a cool tiger pattern on the abdomen that fades to the overall orange color. These lighting fast spiders are easy to keep and breed easily in captivity.
