These incredible spiders were originally described in 1901 as a Macrothele species by Reginald Innes Pocock. However in 2025 a paper on Macrothele created 4 new genera dividing them up a bit. These spider where then moved to the new genera Vacrothele. Don’t be fooled though, these spicy spiders are still full of attitude and are really fun to keep. Heavy webbers that will reach a little over 2 inches as adult. These and other “Macrothele” type spiders are by far my favorites to keep in captivity.
